HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
LGEA Kankara was created in May 1989 when Kankara Local Government was created out of Malumfashi Local Government. A zonal District Education Office was converted as the LGEA Headquarters. In June 1995, the local Government Administrate requested for the state Government or the LGEA to occupy the party building as its Headquarters. This was endorsed thus enabling the LGEA to now occupy the former SDS office. Maintenance of the building was made last year by the present Local Government council through rehabilitation work.
STRUCTURE
a) Number of the schools: - There are ninety (90) primary schools and three (3) Nursery schools. Twelve (12) of these schools and three (3) Nursery schools were established during the period 1999-2007.
b) Number of classrooms: A total of 76 classrooms were constructed during the period under review. This number when added to 299 existing classrooms before 1999. Will give a total 375 classrooms in the LGEA presently. This includes the classrooms constructed in the storey building at Nuhu Model Primary School Kankara.
C) Office accommodation: An additional of 24 office accommodation was built during the period under review. This brings a total of 78 office accommodation in the LGEA.
d) Number of toilets facilities:- Fifty Five (55) toilets were constructed from 1999- 2007. Already there were 95 toilets before, totaling the numbers of toilets in the LGEA are now 150.

ENROLMENT
By the year 2006, the LGEA has a total enrolment of 36,002 which include 21,810 females 14,212 females.
TEACHING AND NON TEACHING STAFF
The whole number of LGEA staff as at January 1999 stood at 435, with recruitment exercise that took place from July 1999 to April 2000, the number increase to 520, by 2004 the number rosé the total number to 712. Recruitment in May 2006 where 185 teachers were recruited increased as follows:

OUSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS
CONTRIBUTIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN
The Honourable Chairman Alh. Mamman Sani Yusuf made the following contribution towards the development of primary education in the Local Government.
2. Construction of two newly classrooms, office and store, each at Lawal, Sabongari, Yardorawa and Unguwar Tofa Primary Schools.
3. The following schools are currently under construction
a) Two classrooms, office and store at Katoge Primary School
b) Two classrooms, office and store at Sharere Primary School
c) Two classrooms, office and store at Kaurawa Primary School
d) Two classrooms, office and store at Unguwar Tsamiya Primary School
e) Two classrooms, office and store at Gorogi Primary School.
4. Supply of 100 number plastic chairs to LGEA conference hall
5. From 1999=2007 a total of 50 schools have renovated and rehabilitated by successive chairman especially present chairman i.e Hon. Mamman Sani Yusuf.
6. A total of over 1675 tables, chairs and desks were constructed and donated to the LGEA by the administration of Hon. Mamman Sani Yusuf.

UNICEF, NTI AND MDGs
About 125 staff attended a workshop on improvement of teaching strategy through UNICEF NTI/MDGs. They included 20 female teachers, 5 inspectors and 100 Head teachers and teachers. This has improved their teaching qualities.

CONTRIBUTION OF INDIVIDUALS
1. Alhaji Abdu Gima : Construction of one block two classrooms at Dutsen Roko Primary School.
2. Alhaji Sani Kankara : Construction of one block of two classrooms and office at Danbirgima Primary School.
3. Alhaji Yahaya Iro:
a) Rehabilitation of one block of two classrooms
b) Sponsoring pupils’ 1 st and 2 nd position in to secondary schools.
c) Donation of bicycle for 1 st position in class six.
4. Alhaji Mara’ud Galadimawa: Employed four part time teachers for Gurbi Primary School and pay them their monthly salaries.
CONTRIBUTION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT EDUCATION COMMITTEE (LGEA)
b) Help in discipline, promotion, appointment and replacement of the LGEA staff.
c) Advice local Government Council on what to contribute to the LGEA
d) Admission and enlightment on pupils’ enrolment.
